SEND Communities of Practice for managers and practitioners

The four Centres for Excellence (CfE) in SEND are each hosting Communities of Practice (CoPs) covering topics within their individual themes (People – Weston College, Community – City College Norwich, Careers – Oldham College and Specialist Support – Natspec). These CoP are open to anyone working in º£½ÇÉçÇø and Skills with an interest in improving experiences for learners with an inclusion need (SEN). The focus of the CoPs is to share and identify effective practice and to work collaboratively as a community of professionals to address challenges.

October

November

5th, . This Natspec Community of Practice offer will focus on the community experience of our young people and what we know about this. This will enable better support for the young people when they are in college. 15:45 – 16:45

11th, . During this session, you will hear From City College Norwich’s LSA (learning support assistants) and the strategies they use for learner support. They will share our workforce development approaches and implementation of LSA standards, Blooms, Pomodoro and Rosenshine principles to ensure exceptional learning support.  13:30 – 15:00

12th, . In this session, facilitated by Oldham College, attendees will explore the impact of mental health on young people with SEND, and strategies to support mental wellbeing in young people with SEND in the transition to the workplace.  16:00 – 17:30

12th, . In this session, City College Norwich will share their approaches and toolkit which ensure that their learners with learning difficulties, differences or inclusion needs have their needs met and can achieve their aspirations. We want our learners to live full lives by thriving independently in their community, moving on to further or higher study, an apprenticeship or into the world of work. They should be able to model values and expectations, creating a culture that promotes equality of opportunity and continuously strives for excellence to provide an aspirational inclusive environment.  15:30 – 17:00

12th, . This session, facilitated by Natspec, will introduce participants to a range of strategies to enable you to work cohesively with your support staff. In turn this will support learners to participate in an effective, challenging, and creative curriculum.  There will be opportunities to hear from an outstanding college about their approach to a curriculum that empowers their learners and from parents and staff at another provider who have seen the impact this approach can have. 16:00 – 17:15

14th, Information event and reverse jobs fair. This face-to-face event in Winchester is being hosted by Hampshire County Council.

The first part of this event is the ; employers and professionals will hear the benefits of employing young people with SEND as well as seeing case studies of our young people and the employers who are already on this journey. 10:00 – 11:30

The second part is the . This is for employers who could provide a long-term work experience placement to meet our learners and find out who would be a good match for their business. 13:00 – 15:00

December

5th, . This Weston College-led community of practice brings together professionals working with learners with SEND from across the FE sector. This collaborative session will provide the opportunity for SEND professionals to discuss current challenges as well as share knowledge and examples of good practice. 15:00 – 16:30

10th, . In this session, facilitated by Oldham College, we will examine the Gatsby Benchmarks review, and how this can be used to create a comprehensive employability curriculum for learners with an education, health and care plan (EHCP).  16:00 – 17:30

January

13th, . In this community of practice, we will work together to develop the principles of individual toolkits to meet a range of students. To empower ownership of their adjustment needs and strategies to become an independent learner. By attending this session you will help develop and contribute to a strategy adjustment toolkits for students independence.   14:30 – 16:00
